October 2012 saw the release of Benjamin Gibbard’s first solo album, Former Lives. We couldn’t have been happier to bring the design to life, creating all elements of the CD and vinyl packaging. Ben chose an abstract painting by artist Joan Hiller as the foundation for the album artwork. We then selected typography to complement the many layers and colors exhibited in Hiller’s painting, and continued the visual interest by wrapping the “Former Lives” title around the booklet. It’s always an honor to design packaging when we are such big fans!
